Charlton Lodge is the new headquarters of 1st Knutsford Scouts, nestled in the picturesque surroundings of the the town’s conservation area on The Moor. As well as being used by our local Scout Group, Charlton Lodge is available for private hire to both community and private groups. The spacious, modern interior, coupled with the leafy location, provides the perfect environment for a range of groups and activities:

The venue is located in the centre of the town and benefits from being on the edge of a 6 acre open green space, The Moor with paths, wooded area and a children’s play area. There is gated access directly onto the Moor. The Moor is itself adjacent to Tatton Mere SSSI. The venue is within safe easy walking distance of King St town centre car park.
History
In 2018 Knutsford District Scouts embarked on a project to replace the headquarters building for 1st Knutsford Scout Group as it was in a poor state of repair. The old building was entirely demolished and the building of a new headquarters commenced in February 2020. About Jim Charlton
This new building was dedicated to Jim Charlton in recognition of his exceptional service to Scouting in Knutsford. Jim has been a stalwart supporter of both 1st Knutsford Scout Group and Knutsford District Scouts for over 5 decades as well as the building of this new headquarters. Jim and his wife Norah moved to Knutsford in 1960 with their three young children. Their eldest joined 1st Knutsford Cubs in 1969.
After supporting the leaders with activities Jim became Group Treasurer in 1971 and joined the Group Executive Committee. In 1976 he took on the additional role as District badge secretary and in 1978 became treasurer to Knutsford District Scouts and joined the District Executive Committee. He continued in all these roles through many changes in Scouting.
His distinguished service and support to Scouting in Knutsford has been recognised by several awards – 1987 Chief Scout’s Commendation; 1996 Medal of Merit; 2003 Bar to Medal of Merit; 2011 Silver Acorn; 2019 Bar to Silver Acorn. And in May 2022 the Chief Scout, Bear Grylls, awarded Jim the 50 Year Service Award.
About Knutsford Scouts
Alderley & Knutsford District Scouts (KDS) are a charity run entirely by volunteers providing a Scouting programme for boys and girls aged 6-18 in Knutsford and the surrounding area. KDS provide the Scouting programme and activities under the umbrella of The Scout Association (TSA) through a number of established Scout Groups in the area each with their own headquarters or Scout Hut. The Scout membership is split into four age ranges or sections named Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorer Scouts. Each Scout Group contains one or more of each of the sections and typically has 65-100 young people across all sections. Total membership of KDS is over 500 young people and adult leaders.
